High Charity 4 Child’s Play! Playing through the Halo Series starting on 10/26!

In 2008 I was part of a 72 hour marathon playing Rock Band and Guitar Hero to raise money for the non-profit that I volunteer with. We were able to raise $9,000 for our cause and it was awesome. Flash forward a few years and video game marathons have become rather common place. I always get a little nostalgic watching them play, wishing that I could be a part of the action again. I don’t however miss closing my eyes and seeing the moving colored circles and hearing the music through the wall, and I also can’t stand the song “Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi. Childs Play Charity is one of my favorite charities to contribute to, because it brings video games to children that are in the hospital for extended periods of time.

My friend Paul is playing Halo this weekend for 72 hours to raise money for Childs play. I would love to see them get to $10,000 so that he has to eat a ghost pepper. Check out their website at HighCharity.org and donate if you feel so inclined. As we all like to say – Its for the children!

An awesome new game that I have been playing that challenges you to build various items with legos, and snap pics for points. It’s really addicting.

Earlier in the week I mentioned that I was working on a new project that I would be announcing soon – and that day is today!

SPOILYOURDINNER.COM!!

I really wanted to create a space for all of my junk food reviews and keep my blog here focused on my life. I have lots of reviews queued up, so be sure to check it out and see if there is anything you’d be willing to give a taste! And if you have any suggestions of something to try please feel free to get in touch with me.

Tonight shall be spent in pajamas, with mashed potatoes, and playing The Unfinished Swan on PS3. I became curious about this game after my friend Jason talked about it on the podcast he is part of. You play as a small boy named Monroe armed with a paint gun that is in the search for an unfinished painting of a swan by his mother. I can’t wait to play it. I plan on spending as much quality time with my gaming systems as possible this weekend.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Costume Quest

Posted in Video Games by

First off – Happy 10/11/12 day!

I know this game came out in 2010, but I just got around to downloading it yesterday after a recommendation from Richard. I played the demo and decided I could not live without it and punked down the 800 points. Dear Microsoft, why do you make it so easy to buy points? My bank account hates you. Sadly I played the demo on Richard’s Xbox, so I was unable to unlock all the achievements I gained while playing the demo, and had to start completely over on my own system.

The game takes place on Halloween. Fraternal twin siblings Reynold and Wren are new in their neighborhood and are asked by their mom to use their trick-or-treating to make new friends in the neighborhood. The player at this point chooses which sibling to play as. The two dress in their costumes, with the non-playable character dressing as a piece of candy corn and the playable character dressing as a robot. A monster with a sweet tooth sees the non-playable sibling, and kidnaps him or her. The player character must now save their sibling in time and be home before curfew.

I have a bad habit of skipping through story lines in games, so when I found out that I could not power through the dialog in the beginning, I found it rather frustrating, especially because I had to do it twice. I was quite delighted to find that my original starting costume is a ROBOT, heck yes! I find the flow and game play of the game a little clunky and jerky, and I find the turn based fighting a little weird. I also wish that there was map feature because as stated before, I am a completionist and want to make sure that I have explored every nook and crany of the game. All in all, I have only been able to invest about 2 hours into the game, and I am head over heels for it. I love the styling of the game, and the hoarder in me loves collecting candy and battle stamps. I can’t wait to check out Happy Wars that comes out this Friday for free for gold Xbox Live members.

Sicky sick.

Posted in Video Games by

So at some point during my move over the weekend I contracted some sort of creeping crud. It started as a scratchy throat on Sunday and turned into full blown sickness Monday. I tried to power through work Monday and Tuesday, but I knew Wednesday was looking grim. I called into work and spent most of my day in a DayQuil haze. I decided to kill some of my bed bound time playing Crimson Alliance.

This game came out about this time last year, but Richard and I hadn’t played yet. I was jonesing for a new dungeon crawl because Torchlight and I broke up two weeks ago due to an accidental character archival on my part. My bitterness has forbidden me from picking up the game again. Anyways – enough about that.

In true fashion, I decided to roll a warrior type. I prefer to play hack and slash characters as I am not good at being stealthy or not running directly into the middle of combat. I like that I don’t have to worry about spending skill points and leveling up skills and abilities. The only way to alter your stats are by equipping new armor and weapons.

We beat the game and DLC in about 8 hours, which I can’t tell if that means we are good at video games or if the game is just that short. I enjoyed grinding through dungeons and that they incorporated replay value by allowing certain doors to be opened by certain classes. I also like that there is an area specifically designed to farm gold, but I hate the fact that you cannot sell old armor and weapons. Also the AI tends to lag a bit when there are large battles being rendered and sometimes it’s hard to figure out where you are since your only identifying quality (aside from your half dollar sized avatar) is a colored ring around your feet. We made this especially challenging by playing the same class.

Your game play is also rated as bronze, silver, and gold, and much to my dismay – being a perfectionist and all – is how damn hard it is to get gold. We were never able to obtain it. I’m looking forward to replaying as a different class to unlock the other secret areas. I’d say it was worth the 1200 points.
